Never All Of It
2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
2 Corinthians 12:9 probably isn’t a new verse for most of us. We’ve heard this verse many times over. In fact, it’s one of those verses that can become white noise. It’s become one of those verses that we just kind of read through in our Bible reading plan without thinking much about it. That verse, though, can absolutely set you free if you let it.
Paul is talking about a “thorn in the flesh.” People debate what exactly he’s referring to, but it was obviously something that was a weakness for him that he wanted to go away. He said he prayed for God to take it away three times, but it was still there. Then he says God told him, “My power is made perfect in your weakness.”
Here’s the takeaway: you and I will never feel like we can do all of it. We’ll never feel like we have all of what it takes. We’ll never feel like we have the correct balance for all of life. We’ll have areas where we feel unqualified, under-resourced, and unworthy. We’ll have times where we feel like we are spinning on a merry-go-round, about to lose it all.
And that’s a good thing!
That’s the place where we have to submit to Jesus. That’s the place where we have to trust Him with the next step. That’s the place where He can shine the brightest through us. That’s the place that keeps us in need and in awe of Him. When you make it through, when you fulfill that call, God’s grace and power are revealed to and through you.
So, what’s that place for you? Where do you feel like you’re making it up as you go? Where do you feel like you’re about to lose control? Where do you feel unequipped?
That might just be the best place for you to see the power of God!
