The avalanche, which took place Sunday at about 5 a.m. local time, was likely caused by a huge piece of ice that fell from a glacier above the camp… (source)
I came across this story a couple of days ago.
The thing that has always amazed me about avalanches is that it comes seemingly out of nowhere usually.
Usually, everything is fine until a small condition changes. The change in that small condition causes a gigantic and deadly chain of events.
The cause is much smaller than the effect.
I can’t help but relate that to our decisions…
- When we choose sin over obedience.
- When we choose sitting still over moving.
- When we choose busyness over stillness.
- When we choose good over godly.
Those decisions, as small as they may seem on the surface, can cause great effects in our lives and the lives of the people around us.
The truth is, we know this. This isn’t new information or a new revelation for you or for me. But we need the reminder…
That what we do today MATTERS.
That what we choose today is IMPORTANT.
That one small slip today can lead to a big event tomorrow.
How have you witnessed the ‘Avalanche Effect’? How can it be used as a positive thing?
