You’re Not Drowning, You’re Rising

Genesis 7:18 (NIV) The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water.

It’s the story of Noah’s Ark. It may be the most popular and well known Bible study in the entire 66 books of the Bible.

Noah was asked to build a boat to save humanity. His job was one that took great responsibility, patience, and hard work. After all of that was done (as if it wasn’t enough), he’d have to have the faith to get the animals on the ark and then shut the door and wait.

Noah did everything as the Lord commanded him. We see that several times outlined in Genesis. He had done the hard work. He had taken the leap of faith. He had waited on God. He had acted on what God had spoken.

And then the flood came.

Do you ever feel like that? Like you’ve done your part. You’ve done the hard work. You’ve tried to do everything “As the Lord has commanded.” You’ve prayed through it. You’ve prayed for it. Then you wait.

You wait and then the flood comes!

Those are the times when life can seem overwhelming. There’s nothing else to do. There’s nothing to blame it on. You question yourself but keep going back to the fact that you did your best.

But the flood still comes. The waters still rise. You feel like you’re drowning and have no other options.

You even feel like God, if he didn’t send the flood waters, certainly allowed them to come.

It’s in these times that I think Genesis 7:18 needs to resound in our minds and spirits…

The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water.

Even though the waters rise, we get to float.

Did you hear that? The waters are rising, but God will allow you to float. In fact, when you look back on this, you won’t just feel like you survived the waters, you’ll see that you rose to new levels in the midst of them.

The one who calls you is faithful. He will protect you in the storm and take you new places in the midst of it.

It’s coming…

You’re not drowning, you’re rising!
