How to Keep From Going Crazy

Let’s face it, we all have a lot to do.

Looking at my family calendar from the past week or 2, I have something like 12 events… not to mention the to-dos that have gotten done as well. I’m sure yours is much like that or even worse. More people in a family adds more stuff to do and more places to go.

We’re busy people.

Not only are we busy people, but we’re also people that work on a lot of different things. We all have projects we’re working on and things we’re trying to accomplish.

Let’s be honest, sometimes we look at it and think, “Where do I even start?”

That’s the norm, unfortunately. We have a lot to do and much of it is good stuff. The other day, though, I was reading through the story of Noah (one of my personal favorites). I read through the parts where God gets sick and tired of people, gets a plan, tells Noah about the plan, and gives him the instructions. Not far into the actual building of the boat, I read,

“So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him.” – Genesis‬ ‭6:22‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Suddenly, I hate an epiphany… Noah didn’t think about how he’d get the animals on the boat or how he’d know if the ground was dry while he was building the boat… he did it AS God commanded him.

He did it as God commanded.

That doesn’t just mean that he did it in the way that God commanded, but he also worked at God’s pace. He took it one step at a time. You see, if Noah had focused on what was gonna happen after the flood, I doubt he’d ever have been able to finish the boat. The whole thing would have probably overwhelmed him and left him paralyzed with all that had to be done (not to mention Noah apparently had a drinking problem anyway…).

We can learn a lot from Noah.

Maybe the reason you’re about to go crazy with your life or your projects is because you are looking at the end or the whole rather than what’s next. You aren’t doing it as God calls and reveals, but you’re trying to do it as fast as possible to get to the next thing.

Or better yet, maybe the reason you are worried sick about something is because you are trying to have enough faith for the end result rather than trusting God with the next step.

We should do and believe as God commands.

Don’t be overwhelmed by the end result, let God lead you along the way. Do the next thing on that to-do list or believe God for the next step He’s called you to take.

Do it as you go!
