“The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.”
Mark 1:22 NIV
Jesus performed some pretty amazing acts.
Let’s get that out of the way first.
He turned water into wine.
He raised a man that was dead.
He healed with just a touch.
He spit in the dirt and opened a blind man’s eyes.
The list could go on…
Jesus was God in flesh. He walked with a power that came straight from the Father. He never took a wrong step, acted wrongly out of anger or impatience, or worried about life.
But what we find in Mark 1:22 has nothing to do with His action.
Just before this, Jesus has called a couple of His disciples and just after this, Jesus is going to do some pretty cool stuff, but that’s not what the people are astonished about in this verse.
They’re not in awe of what He’s teaching.
They’re in awe of HOW He’s teaching it.
With an authority that proves His annointing.
With a spirit that is pure and unselfish.
With a desire that is passionate and pure.
You see, we can do nothing different from the person beside us but be so much more effective in it simply by the power by which we do it.
We can approach things with an attitude of service and humility and accomplish more than had we done the same thing with a different attitude.
So sure, we have to act on what God’s called us to do.
Faith isn’t lazy.
But we have to act on it with the right attitude. that’s what amazes people and lifts Jesus up.
So, how’s your attitude today?
Leader.
Mom.
Dad.
Pastor.
Teacher.
Student.
Don’t waste the right actions by doing them with the wrong attitude.
