Goals.
Many of us have them, few of us actually achieve them. Sometimes, it’s because we don’t have the discipline to change what needs to be changed or do what needs to be done. Sometimes, we don’t accomplish our goals because we don’t consider the time it’ll take or we don’t make them specific enough to get a full picture of what it is we’re trying to do. All of those things can make us unproductive a failures in accomplishing what we need to do, but I’ve found these 3 things effect people the most when pushing towards more…
Distractions
The other night, I picked my son up from daycare. My wife had something to do that evening, so it was just gonna be me and him. I asked him what he wanted to do and the whole way home, he talked about going to Chic-Fil-A. He talked about how he’d eat chicken nuggets and play on the playground. The second he got home, he saw his football in the corner of the living room and completely forgot about Chic-Fil-A. We never went.
A lot of us are like that with our goals. Something looks worth our while now, but the second someone else is doing something that looks better or more fun or the second we see another need, we change our goals. Distractions, even to good things, are still distractions from our main thing.
Watch out for the distractions of more, other, doubt, and fear.
Opposition
Opposition comes in a variety of ways. Sometimes, it’s someone else that moves in and begins to try to take control of what we’re doing. Sometimes opposition is negativity that gets implanted in our minds and slows or stops progress. Sometimes, opposition is a competing business or idea.
Don’t let the opposition take you out. Stay on track. Don’t retreat, refocus.
Set Back
Perhaps the most common and crippling thing is a set back. The truth is, nothing worth while will come without set backs. You will have days where you feel like you’re doing nothing but taking multiple steps away from your goal. Maybe some funds fall through, maybe you get physically sick, maybe you just aren’t “feeling it” or maybe, something you thought you were way past comes back up again and is a problem. Here’s what I know about set backs…
Set backs can cause us to bow out or step up. The choice is ours.
In fact, sometimes a set back is just the thing that makes us more determined than ever and pushes us over the hump. With setbacks, it’s all in our response and our comeback.
