3 Lessons About Love From The Birth Of My Son

iPhone image on 2014-04-13 at 11-32-58I’ve been a Dad for about a week.

It’s an amazing feeling.

I was supposed to become a Daddy on May 17 according to doctors, but God had a little different plan. Instead, our son was born April 8 about 6 weeks early. As I look back over a whirlwind week, I’m reminded of these 3 things about love.

Love protects
When my wife’s water broke early that Tuesday morning, I immediately began praying for her and Riley. There’s a very real enemy that loves to step in at times like those and I refused to let him win. I did what Riley couldn’t do and prayed for him for hours.

That’s what real love does, it protects. That’s what God does for us. He protects us. He protects us and makes sure that he has us covered.

Love gives
One of the things I already know about being a Daddy is that I’m willing to give anything for my son. He’s so precious. He has my heart. I’d give my life for him.

Love gives. God models this over and over. He gave His Son. He gives us good things.

Love empathizes
With Riley being born earlier than his due date, he’s had a little bit of a fight on his hands. He’s had needles and medical equipment hooked up to him since he was born. I know that stuff hurts. As they stuck and tested him, it was like I was hurting. I could feel his pain.

That’s what love does. Love feels another’s pain because it cares that much.

Tell us, what else does love do?
