Management is doing things right, leadership is doing the right things. -Peter F. Drucker
I always find it interesting how large of a part Christian ethics play in not just church leadership, but leadership as a whole. It’s important that any leader have high ethical standards and the trust of the people in which he or she leads.
I find that doing the right things while leading isn’t always easy. Sure, most of the time I treat people well, live to a high standard, and make good moral decisions, but I find that sometimes it’s hard to do the right thing rather than the easy thing.
The right thing often requires conflict. The right thing often requires confrontation. The right thing often requires more effort and time by the leader initiating the task. However, doing the right thing is often where a leaders ability to lead is seen the most. Leaders who do the right thing, not just the easy thing, are often the ones that find themselves successful. Leaders who do that right things are the ones that push themselves and their organizations to a higher level.
No matter your age or position, do the right thing, not just the easy thing. Do what God has called you to, not just the thing of least resistance. It’s easy to manage people and do things right, it’s takes a person of character, talent, and guts to do the right things…
