The popular hymn says, “You can have all this world, but give me Jesus.” This is the point that I’m at in my relationship with God. I’m slowly learning just how much of the stuff of the world really doesn’t matter to me. I’m discovering that anything, when put beside Jesus, doesn’t matter at all.
I had a conversation the other day about this very topic with a friend of mine. His statement went something like, “When you have the fire of Christ and eternity in you, nothing else matters.” I’m glad that he chose to say this to me because I was wondering if I was the only one that had this feeling.
It seems as if many Christians and churches have lost sight of the fact that Christ is all that matters. Christians have often become too obsessed with policies and constitutions to allow their churches to make a real difference. Churches say they can’t focus on numbers yet they continue to count tithes and offerings each week while ignoring the numbers that have bearing on eternity. Christians say that they want to see God’s kingdom grow, but are unwilling to sacrifice their time, talent, and money to see it happen. Churches say that they operate on basis of the Great Commission, but seem to operate more on the basis of the great committee.
The time is now that we get back to what really matters in our lives. The time is now that we discover the true meaning of life. The time is now that we put things into perspective and realize what truly matters. The time is now that we quit shunning the world because they don’t follow the churches “rules.” The time is now that we make Christ our first priority rather than just a priority. The time is now that we say to to the world, you can have everything else, just give me Jesus!
