Scripture:
John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
Devotion:
While I know very little about gardening, I do understand one concept: in order for a plant to grow, it must remain attached to the vine. When an apple falls off its tree, it will soon die. When a rose is off its bush for too long, it will begin to turn colors and eventually die.
Our spiritual life is no different. If we are going to grow as Christ followers, we must stay attached to Christ. It’s of vital importance that we spend time with Christ, that we hear His word, that we apply His word, that we worship Him, and that we make Him the first priority in our lives.
A plant will turn colors, shrivel up, die, and be useless if it’s not attached to its vine…Christians will certainly do the same!
Reality Questions:
When’s the last time I honestly tried to connect with Christ?
Do I find myself producing fruit?
Prayer Points:
Ask God to show you what it means to “remain in” Him.
