Where is God? In the Details

I was reading through Numbers 6 and 7 a few days ago and learned this…

God is in the details.

God was in the details of creation,
God was in the details of the tabernacle,
God was in the details of the sacrifice,
God is in the details of our lives,
God is in the details of our church.

God is a God of details.

We know that God has the hairs on our heads numbered
that he knew us before we were born.

God cares about the details.

It’s important that we do the same.

That we check the details of ourselves,
that we examine the details of what we lead,
that we notice the details.

  • When God seems far away, it may be in the details.
  • When God is blessing, it may be in the details.
  • When things are crumbling, it may be in the details.
  • When you’re gaining influence, it may be in the details.
  • When your faith is growing, it may be in the details.

I don’t know what the details are in your life, but check em,

because…..

God is in the details.

I Shower With This Too Often

One of the things that I do that Melissa has to call me out on every now and then is using the same towel for too long.

I don’t know why, but I hate using a fresh towel.
There’s just something odd about it for me.

And so, I use the same one for a few days (weeks) in a row.

Eventually, the towel begins to stink to the point that Melissa is forced to tell me I have to wash it.

I don’t know what it is, but I bet you have a habit kinda like this.
Something that you think, “That’s GROSS!” when you hear that someone else does it, but it doesn’t seem that bad because you’re the one doing it.

That’s kinda the way we think about our sins.

We think….

If I’m doing it, it’s not that bad…

At least I’m not doing ____ like ____.

The problem?

When we compare ourselves with others, we’ll always be able to find someone that seems worse than us.
When we compare ourselves to God, that towel suddently smells worse… His towels are fresh and white.

This is a call for us to all work on ourselves.
If we all do that, we won’t have time to call anyone else out on their dirty towel.

Your Past Has Passed

Most people I know are really good at looking into the past.

Seeing what’s happened in their life,
seeing what they’ve accomplished,
seeing how they’ve failed,
remembering past experiences.

While it’s definitely never wrong for us to look in the past to celebrate what’s happened and thank God for His faithfulness, I’ve noticed something…

It’s kinda rare that we look into the past and just look on the good stuff.

We often drift to past hurts,
past sins,
past mistakes,
past failures.

So, while we’re busy dwelling on the negative of the past, we often miss the opportunities of the present.

It’s important for us to keep moving forward,
to keep looking to the future and living for all that today is worth.

Don’t miss out on the hope of the future because of the horror of the past.

A Baby Changes Everything

I’m not a parent yet, but I’ve heard the stories of how a newborn baby completely changes their parents’ lives as soon as they’re born.

The parents’ priorities change, their time schedules change, their budgets change, their focus changes.
All of a sudden they have the responsibility of a human life other than their own.

A newborn baby changes everything.

Luke 2:12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.

And so, Jesus changed EVERYTHING.

The religious system.
The inescapable punishment for our sins.
The course of human history.
The concept of true love.
The end of the world.
The hope of the world.

A baby changes everything…
In Jesus’ case, He changed the world!

No Perfect People

I write on this blog about everyday.
Sometimes, it may seem like I don’t struggle…

Like I don’t face daily temptation,
Like I never have a weak moment,
Like I never fall,
Like I never fail.

To assume that though,
would be a horrible mistake.

I fall,
I fail,
I doubt,
Just like you.

I’m assured of my salvation,
I’m assured that God has an unconditional,
undying love for me.

But,

I waver from time to time.

I have frustrations,
I get mad at life,
I get frustrated with God.

No matter who you look up to,
No matter who you consider a ‘hero’ of the faith,
They struggle.

Don’t think you’re alone.

Don’t think you’ll ever get to the point where everything is perfect,
Nothing  is scary.

It’s not easy.
It wasn’t for Jesus,
It wasn’t for Peter,
It wasn’t for Paul.

It won’t always be easy for us.

But,

The love of God will never leave you,
His presence will never forsake you.

Hold on for the ride.
Don’t get frustrated by life’s occurrences and think there’s something wrong with you.

You’re just like the rest of us…

Fallen people,
In a fallen world,
Saved by a perfect Savior,
Sent by an awesome God!

One ‘Thing’

We all have that one thing…

That one thing we wish we could change.
That one thing we wish we didn’t have.
That one thing we wish we didn’t do.
That one characteristic we wish we didn’t display.
That one hangup that we wish we could overcome.

We all have that one thing…………….

Dirty Tissue

Recently, I have noticed something about myself that I’m not sure that I want to admit. I was at work sitting at my desk and my allergies were acting up. I did what any normal person would do: I blew my nose. Here’s where it took a turn for the worse. I looked at the tissue after blowing my nose.

This isn’t the first time that this has happened. Nearly every time I blow my nose I tell myself, “Don’t look.” And then I end up looking. And then I regret it, because it’s gross and I have a weak stomach.

1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to us all. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

We all have those “dirty tissues” in our lives that we are tempted to look at or return to.

Pornography can be a dirty tissue.
Lying can be a dirty tissue.
Jealousy can be a dirty tissue.
Drugs and alcohol can be a dirty tissue.
Eating habits can be a dirty tissue.

I know it’s tough. I know that sometimes it feels hopeless. I know that sometimes it feels like that the only thing we can do is look at our dirty tissue. But I also know this: God has told us that He will provide a way out. God has said that He will be there for us. God is faithful.

Look for Him and you’ll find your way out.

You are not alone in your struggles.

Do you have any dirty tissues that you have been tempted to look at?
