Social Media Strategy

Because I don’t believe in doing anything just because, I started thinking about my reason for using social media.

The reason I…

Respond to tweets.
Spend valuable time on this blog.
Respond to comments and promote conversation on this blog.
Take the time to send pictures to my Posterous.
Check my Facebook regularly.

While some of the answer I came up with is, “Because I enjoy it,” I think this diagram (my artwork, not meant to be pleasing to the eye) really shows why I do all those things.

It’s not a perfect plan.

It doesn’t communicate how I accomplish it,
but it does lay out what I’m seeking to accomplish.

Ultimately, it’s about influence for me.

Not me being able to push people around and sell them on MY ideas, but me being able to IMPACT people in new ways.

In order to impact people, I must first connect with them, involve them in conversation, and build confidence with them.

People must trust me before I can impact them the way I want.

It’s one way I’m trying to…

turn the world UPSIDE down.

Why do you use social media? What’s the end goal?

Communication With A Cause – Impacting

It’s what God has called us to do.
It’s why the Holy Spirit is living and active.
It’s why out of any organization Jesus could have begun during His time on earth, He chose the church.

We’re called to IMPACT.

We’re not called to connect with people just like ourselves for the sake of being comfortable and building friendships.
We’re not called to meet other people and just be nice.
We were never intended to soak everything in and become spiritually fat because we never give what we receive.

We’re called for IMPACT.

This is the primary reason I believe in social media.

While it may take a little longer to build a platform and trust through social media, it IS possible.
It is then that we begin to impact the people that are around us in social media.

Social media promotes impact not only with other members of social media, but those people that I have personal relationships with as well.

From the growing that I do through social media, I am better equipped to impact the people that are physically close to me.

In the shuffle of life, never forget that we are made for IMPACT!

turn the world UPSIDE down.

How do you use social media to impact the world around you? (both in social media and personally)

Favorite WordPress Plugins

I was searching for a certain WordPress plugin the other day and noticed how few things came up when I searched.
SO
I’m going to list my favorite 10 WordPress plugins.

Please keep in mind,
I am no WP genius.
I’m don’t even claim to be.

1. Askimet – Prevents spam comments from coming to my comment inbox (and an occasional legit comment).

2. Commentluv – Allows you to share your latest post under your comment when you comment.

3. Sexy Bookmarks – The pop up sharing icons under each post.

4. Feedburner – Allows my feed to be directed to feedburner for subscribing.

5.  Twitter Tools – Post twitter updates on my site and tweets each new post when it posts.

6. WP Greet Box – That possibly annoying box at the top of the page asking you to subscribe.

7. WP-Archives – Allows for a separate page for blog archives.

8. Facebook Like Button for WordPress – The ‘like’ tab at the bottom of each page.

9. WordPress Mobile Pack – Allows for easier reading on a mobile phone.

10. Tweet Old Posts - Sends out random tweets for posts from the good ole’ days.

I would link to each of these, but you really just need to search in the plugin portion of your dashboard.

So,

What are some of your favorite WP plugins and what do they do?

Please share!

5 Reasons I Tweet

I dove head first into Twitter a few months ago.
Since then, I’ve really gained an appreciation for the opportunities that social media provides.

Here are the top 5 reasons  why I give my time to Twitter…

1. I’m able to impact the lives of people I would have never been able to meet without it.

Twitter has allowed me to have conversations with, email correspondance with, and phone conversations with people that are all around the world. Without Twitter, I would have never been able to give these people an encouraging word or open their curiosity to Christ.

2. I’m impacted by people that I would have never have had a chance to meet without Twitter.

The things that I learn and the insights that I gain while reading through my Twitter stream are inspiring, educational, and thought provoking. I can honestly say that I’ve learned more on Twitter than in some seminary classes. :)

3. It teaches me to write and think with clarity.

When you’re limited to 140 characters in a statement, you have to be brief and clear. The person reading my tweet probably has never met me and has no idea how I think or what I’m like. I have to be crystal clear when tweeting so I’m not misunderstood. It’s helped me think and speak clearly consistently.

4. Connecting with people helps me think through things.

Sometimes, I have to talk my way through thoughts and ideas. I’ve tweeted a brief thought and been able to get a better picture of the throught through the discussion it’s caused on Twitter.

5. The relationships I form.

I’ve met some great people on Twitter. These are people that, 5 years ago, I would have never been able to know. In fact, I sometimes begin to feel like I actually know some of the people I follow.

So, why do you tweet?

The Hidden Gem in the Blogosphere

A couple of days ago, I confessed on twitter that one of my favorite blogs to read is Ann Jackson’s “Flowerdust.”

Now, I know that blogs are a dime a dozen, everyone it seems, has one or has had one in the past.
Aside from the few really big ones we all hear about, the other good ones can be hidden in the corner of the blogosphere.

So, I thought I would give you a chance to share…
What’s your favorite blog?
And/Or
Where can we find your blog?

Leave the name and URL in the comments.
I look forward to having some new blogs to put in my Google Reader!
