Link Love

This post was spot on! It has always bugged me that most people think they will never have more on them than they can handle. Isn’t that the point?!

This is very true. We have to use what God’s given us, especially if we ever want more! It also went along with this post by me last week.

Some great leadership thoughts here!

Give Me Jesus

The popular hymn says, “You can have all this world, but give me Jesus.” This is the point that I’m at in my relationship with God. I’m slowly learning just how much of the stuff of the world really doesn’t matter to me. I’m discovering that anything, when put beside Jesus, doesn’t matter at all.

I had a conversation the other day about this very topic with a friend of mine. His statement went something like, “When you have the fire of Christ and eternity in you, nothing else matters.” I’m glad that he chose to say this to me because I was wondering if I was the only one that had this feeling.

It seems as if many Christians and churches have lost sight of the fact that Christ is all that matters. Christians have often become too obsessed with policies and constitutions to allow their churches to make a real difference. Churches say they can’t focus on numbers yet they continue to count tithes and offerings each week while ignoring the numbers that have bearing on eternity. Christians say that they want to see God’s kingdom grow, but are unwilling to sacrifice their time, talent, and money to see it happen. Churches say that they operate on basis of the Great Commission, but seem to operate more on the basis of the great committee.

The time is now that we get back to what really matters in our lives. The time is now that we discover the true meaning of life. The time is now that we put things into perspective and realize what truly matters. The time is now that we quit shunning the world because they don’t follow the churches “rules.” The time is now that we make Christ our first priority rather than just a priority. The time is now that we say to to the world, you can have everything else, just give me Jesus!

How He Loves Us

I heard this song at Unleash today and couldn’t stop thinking about its words. Had to share it!

God Equips and Calls

God doesn’t ask us to do what He won’t equip us to do.

This should be a very freeing statement. In other words, God is the one doing the work in us and through us. Our only job in the process is obedience.

God equips His people to do His work.

God has given you the ability. All you have to do is sharpen that ability and obey.

That should take the pressure off. It’s not about you…

God wants to use you and has prepared you and will continue to prepare you to do it…

The next time you get nervous about sharing your faith remember this. The next time you get nervous speaking in front of people, remember this. The next time you think you can’t do what God’s called and ask you to do, remember this!

Easter Egg Dump

On April 4th, Calvary is doing something a little different to celebrate Easter. It’s not your typical Easter Egg Hunt. It’s kind of an Easter Egg Explosion. We’re having an Easter Egg Dump. That’s right, we will be dumping Easter eggs out of a dump truck! Every egg will have a prize, and a few will have coupons to be redeemed for things like an X Box, and iPod and whatever else we think people may like!
I’m really looking forward to doing this! It’s going to be something like this area has never experienced!

Life Simplified

What do people think of when they see you?

No, seriously. What do you think most people that know you think of when they see you?

I don’ think that most people would be that satisfied with the answer that they find after asking this question (If people were honest with them).

The truth is, our relationship with Christ should be what others think of when they see us.

I’m afraid that most of us live such busy lives, live for so many things, and have so many distractions that people fail to think our relationship with Christ when they see us.

Our lives need to be simplified. Our focus needs to be narrowed. We can do this by concentrating on the two most important things: loving God and loving others. Anything else is just a distraction.

So, what do people think of when they think of Jonathan? Hopefully, it will soon be the Christ that controls my life!

Use What You Have

Most of us don’t have everything we think we need. Most of us think we would be much happier if we had more money, lost 20 pounds, looked like someone else, or even had a certain talent. Most of us think that there is something that, if we had it, would make us much happier and even more effective to God’s kingdom.

Too often, we think about what would make us better rather than using what we have. We have been blessed with uniqueness and a mission from God. If we wait until we get that certain thing that we think we need to begin doing something significant, we will probably never start.

Work what you have. Use your uniqueness and perceived short comings to do something positive. Use the tough situation you’ve been put in to make a significant contribution to someone’s life. Use what God’s given you and begin to make a difference for Him. Use what you have, the best you can…now!
