Super Bowl Success

Like many of you, I was at home much of the day yesterday watching a little playoff football.

Anytime I watch teams lose in a single elimination type playoff system, I always think about the fact that everything is over for the team that loses.

For teams that lost yesterday, the season is done.
They’ll never get back all of the hours they spent trying to make this season a success.
Ultimately, all of the losing teams fell short of the goal… A Super Bowl Championship.

Now, each losing team has to wait til next year to start over and try for the same goal.

It’s a little like life.
We have one chance.
One life to live and count for something.
If we put all of the work in, yet still fall short of our goals, we’ve ultimately failed.

Unlike football, life has no theory of “wait til next year.”

Are you doing all you can to make sure you don’t fall short of your ultimate goal?

Are you going to find the end of your life only to realize you failed to make it count?

Just something to think about on your Monday…

Lazy Days

We all need them. Days when a calendar and schedules are the furtherest thing from our mind.

Days when we do nothing that we don’t want to do.
Days when we do little of anything at all.

Sleeping late, sipping coffee, reading a book, watching TV….

What’s your idea of the perfect lazy day?

Go!

What’s the Real Goal?

Consistently create encore experiences that enrich lives one person at a time.

If I were to give you a guess as to who the above mission statement belongs to, I doubt you would ever get it right.
  • It’s not a gym.
  • It’s not a country club.
  • It’s not a store.
  • It’s not a theater.
  • It’s not a church.
This mission statement belongs to Zaxby’s Restaurants.
It seems as if Zaxby’s is concerned enough with their product, results, and guests to have a mission to deliver.
If asked, I doubt that any of the Zaxby’s leadership would ever say that while this is their mission statement, they are perfectly comfortable with creating ordinary experiences with the hope that some may return after their initial visit.
My question…
Would this be an honest mission statement of most churches?
  • Do we seek to be a place where all feel welcome?
  • Do we demand excellence in everything we do?
  • Is our desire to provide services that have people wanting more?
  • Are we consistently striving to be better?
  • Are we getting results?
  • Are lives and eternities changed forever through what we do?
Just something to think about…

The Dog Snuggie: Do What?

Ok, I understand.

Maybe the world was fine before humans had the “blanket with sleeves.”
But then came the Snuggie that made it easier to move your arms while you were staying under the blanket.
That seemed to serve some kind of purpose.
This one, though…
I’m not sure I’m buying what they’re selling or picking up what they’re putting down.
I mean, isn’t that the reason God gave dogs FUR?
They had the Snuggie before we ever knew that humans needed a Snuggie.
They have a Snuggie that’s permanently attached to their skin.
You can’t get anymore convenient than that!
Now, if you bought your dog one of these for Christmas, don’t hate me.
Instead, tell me…
Why?
Have you found a GOOD use for it?
How does your dog feel about wearing an over sized blanket around the yard?
Go!

Leading in Circles

I’ve met lots of “leaders” in my life.
Some have deserved the title, others failed to live up to it.
Some have been put in leadership positions and are well meaning.
Some have been put in leadership positions and see it as a way of personal gain.
Some have the ability to discern vision, cast vision, and lead people toward a vision.
Some lack an ability to dream anything.
Some are so comfortable with where they are, having a vision for where they need to go is the furtherest thing from their mind.
Some have so many things they see as visions that they’re unsure of what to pursue.
It’s the last group that seems most frustrating.
They know that all is not right and that they need to push for progress, but they lack the ability and the effort to get everyone on the same page.
These leaders essentially lead in circles.
Since they have so many dreams, visions, and preferences in their head, they often move from one to the other without ever accomplishing any.
They begin on one path, get part of their organization behind it, and then abandon it for something more attractive.
The result is that those that look to them for leadership are left with an unclear idea of what success really is.
They see success in one direction for a time, and then have to turn another direction in order to go where the leader says they should.
People that follow leaders that lead in circles eventually get dizzy.
They grow so tired of changing directions and so frustrated with never accomplishing anything that they either quit trying or quit altogether.
Eventually they fail to see any kind of real goal.
Vision must be given by God.
Vision must be our heartbeat.
Vision must be clear.
