3 Ways to Accomplish Nothing

Put all your stock in the opinion of other people.

If you want to be sure you accomplish nothing, no matter what you’re doing, be sure you try to make EVERYONE happy. You’ll be so busy trying to please the preference of every person that you forget that you’re main purpose is to glorify God. You’ll be so busy seeking the approval of the person beside you, you’ll have no time to invest in anything that will make a difference… even after you’re gone.

Never stretch yourself by doing anything new.

It’ll help us all accomplish nothing if we try our best to never have to learn anything new. We’ll be so busy hiding in the corner and avoiding ‘uncomfortable’ situations and tasks that we’ll miss the true opportunities. We’ll be concerned because we don’t have a complete knowledge of every situation and never begin anything that may make us look vulnerable.

Completely ignore relationships.

Relationships are so important to success, if we don’t spend time building them, success is sure to pass us by. We’ll be busy hanging out alone that we’ll never team up with anyone to do something that we couldn’t do on our own. We’ll never reach out, never hurt with others, never care for others, and never be stretched by others.

What ways can you add?

Where Google+ Failed & What We Can Learn

I opened my email and clicked the link as soon as my Google plus invite appeared in my inbox. I jumped on, began to check stuff out, and began to invite other people almost immediately.

For the next few days, I spent a chunk of time reading, responding to updates, and connecting with people on Google plus. And then, I stopped.

I really wanted to NEED google plus.
I really wanted to like it.

But in the end, what appeared so fast, grew so quickly, and caused such a stir quietly escaped into the corner of my internet.

Why?

I’m sure there are a lot of reasons. I’m not even saying the Google plus is dead.

However, I can’t help but believe that Google plus failed to meet needs.
Sure, people jumped on it and loved it for a little while, but in the end, they didn’t really use it to do anything they couldn’t do with what they already had…. I didn’t.

What’s the point?

Meet needs to stay relevant.

No matter what you do or what your goal is… Meet needs.

Meet the needs of the people you are trying to reach, touch, sell to, or teach.
It’ll keep them around and help you accomplish your real goal.

How do you meet needs?

Not Sin Covering, Sin Crushing

I don’t know about you, but one of the things that I’m really good at is doing something that I know I probably shouldn’t do, asking forgiveness for it, and knowing in the back of my mind that I’ll probably do it again.

Maybe I’m too honest, but I do this occasionally.

That’s why when I read something like 1 John 3:5,
I know it’s for me…

And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him. – 1 John 3:5

Did Jesus come to forgive our sin?

Absolutely.

Did Jesus come to cover up our sin?

Nope.

Did Jesus come so that sin wouldn’t have power over us?

Yes!

Jesus doesn’t want to be a tarp we throw over our sin when we do something we shouldn’t,
Jesus wants to help us take our sin on and out of our lives.

If we see Jesus as a big bottle of white out, covering our mistakes,
we’ve short-changed who Jesus is and what He wants to do.

Jesus wants to be the sledge hammer that crushes our sin.

You have power in Him.
I have the ability in Him.

To not do that anymore.
To withstand the pressure of the people around me.
To go against society.
To do exactly what God wants.

Don’t see Christ as a sin covering,
see Him as so much more.

Jesus wants to do some sin crushing!

Driving By the Gym: Using What We Got

A few months before my wedding day, I looked in the mirror and decided that I needed to lose a little weight. The next day, I went all out and bought new workout shorts, new running shoes, and new workout shirt.

I went and joined the local gym and determined I would start the next Monday…

I never did.

I had the clothes.
I had the gym membership.
I had a way to get to the gym.
I even rode by the gym a few times.

But I never went in.

So, I never got into shape,
never lost a pound.

I think a lot of Christians just drive by the gym.

We know how we need to grow in our faith.
We’ve been given the tools to do it.
We know how to use those tools.

But we never tap into them…

we just drive by the gym.

I wonder what would happen if we all started to get in the gym and use the tools that we have?

If we began to practice the disciplines that we say we believe in.
Started to live out the faith we have.
Began to use our relationships and time for the things that matter.

In what part of life do you find yourself just driving by the gym?
