People of Uncommon

I want to try something a little different.

Instead of me writing a post with the idea that we will become people of greater and uncommon faith, I want to honor someone that you see as having uncommon faith.

Here’s what you do.

Send me an email to JonathanFPearson@gmail.com (LINK) telling me about someone of uncommon faith that you respect. (You can comment on this post if you prefer)

You can include some details about their life… why you look up to them, how they developed their faith, the struggles they may have overcome, what you most admire, your relationship with them, a picture, etc….

I’ll post some of your entries in the upcoming weeks (I’ll let you know when I’m posting your entry so that you can tell them).

There’s no prize, just a way for you to honor them and a chance for us to learn from these uncommon people.

So, email me and lets see the people of uncommon faith!

Silence is Deadly

I was driving home last night with my radio up and windows down.
I don’t know what it was, but I had this thought…

I often turn up the volume to drown out the noise.

I think we all do.

We realize that if all is silent around us, there’s nothing to do but listen and reflect.

So, we turn up the noise around us so we won’t have to face reality,
so we won’t have to think about our faults.

We turn up the volume to drown out the voice of God and the noise of our convictions.

When all is quiet around me, I start to reflect on myself.
My short-comings.
My insecurities.
My mess ups.

So, last night I rolled the windows up and turned the radio down and listened to God.

Sometimes, we have to turn down the volume and allow God to help us see where we mess up.

Today, turn down the volume.

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God;…

4 Reasons the Church is Still Alive

1. Her groom.

The Church was the one organization that Jesus founded during His 33 years on earth. He set it up to triumph. He set it up to be effective until His Father returned to take us home. The bride will always be alive because Her groom will sustain Her!

2. Her purpose.

The Church’s purpose is to reach the world. That’s it! Our purpose isn’t to stay inside our walls and make each other feel better about doing nothing. Our purpose is GROWTH. The more we accomplish this purpose (through Christ), the healthier the church will get.

3. Her promise.

We are promised that the gates of Hell will NOT prevail. No matter how much of a black eye the Church gets, she will continue to live and thrive. What Jesus has birthed, nothing can destroy!

4. Her priority.

We are the lone instrument in promoting and proclaiming the Word of God. It is a priority that we be busy doing what He created us to do. All of our local churches always say we believe in the Great Commission, but do we operate by the Great Commission or by bylaws or committees? Our priority is reaching the world. Our mission is simple. God has no plan b, the church is His plan for reaching the world. We must make it our priority because we are His.

Ultimately, no matter how many punches are thrown at the Church or how many people that are self proclaimed “members” seek to destroy her, the Church is still the HOPE OF THE WORLD!

5 Signs FB is Taking Over Your Life

A few months ago, I did a post about the top 10 signs you’re addicted to twitter… you can read that here.

Here are the top 5 signs that Facebook is taking over your life.

1. You’ve seen “Social Network” 5 times already.

2. You check your Facebook inbox more regularly than your postal mailbox.

3. You designate someone to tend your farm on “Farmville” when you go out of town.

4. You have nightmares about the Facebook Virus deleting your account. For the next 3 weeks, you won’t click on anything.

5. You found out your wife was pregnant by reading her status update.

Have any suggestions for #6?

Jesus Ain’t My Homeboy

When I was growing up, I always had a lot of friends.

Some of these friends were really close.
They were the ones that I spent most of my time with and loved being around.

Some of these friends were more casual.
They were the ones that I saw at school and occasionally hung out with outside of school.

When I would decide that I wanted to do something and wanted a friend to go with me,
I’d always call my close friends first.

Only after all of them seemed to already have something going on would I call my other friends.

It seems like a lot of people treat Jesus as “the other friend.”

Sometimes, I treat Jesus as my “other friend.”

We’re willing to pay some attention to Him on an occasional Sunday.
We’re willing to admit that He’s our friend.
We’re even willing to call on Him when all other options fall through.

BUT,

He isn’t our life.

He’s just a casual friend.

Jesus never died on a cross and got up from the grave to be our casual friend.
Jesus never died on a cross and got up to be someone to come to when all other options seem unavailable.

Jesus’ love demands our life.
Jesus’ sacrifice demands our life.
Jesus’ atonement demands our life.

I never want Jesus to be a casual friend to me.
I never want Jesus as my “homeboy.”

I want Jesus to be MY LIFE.
More today than yesterday…
More tomorrow than today…

He demands my firsts, not my leftovers.
He demands my  priority, not my remainder.

In every part of my life…

My family.
My work.
My finances.
My leadership.
My ministry.
My leisure.

I must be last!
He must be first!
