Chores Are Opportunities

I don’t know about you, but there are some things that I have to do on occasion that I just don’t wanna do. Sometimes it’s something that I agreed to do beforehand and sometimes it’s just something that I notice needs to be done and am convicted to do.

It’s not that I want to do it or that I’m necessarily good at,
it’s just one of those chores that I have to do.

As I was muddling through another one of these chores the other day, it hit me…

Some chores are hidden opportunities.

I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the show on the Food Network called “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives”, but the basic idea is that they find the best little hole in the wall restaurants and spotlight them on the show. It’s those places that look kinda bad on the outside but offer great food on the inside.

I think sometimes our chores are like those diners and dives.

The seems so nasty and unappealing thinking about them and doing them time and time again, but they can sometimes be hidden gems.

If we’re faithful with them, sometimes they lead to a blessing.
If we give them our best, sometimes they provide a bigger end.
It we make them a priority, they can really make a difference.

I don’t know what ‘chores’ you have to do today or any other day,
but don’t just suffer through them.

See them as opportunities.

Colossians 3:23 Whatever your work is, do it gladly. Do it as you would do it unto the Lord and not for people.

What chores do you have that may be opportunities?

You Need Three Loves

With all of the things you and I have going on.
With all of the responsibilities and appointments, it’s impossible for us to invest in everyone.

So, we have to choose. We have to love everyone (Jesus teaches us this), but we can’t love everyone in the same way… to the same degree.

It’s impossible… our time is limited.

I can’t love everyone as much as I love my wife.

I can’t get to know everyone and love everyone as much as I love my close friends.

But, I have to love everyone.

So how to I balance it?

I love with a plan.

1 Thessalonians 2:8 We loved you so much that we shared with you not only God’s Good News but our own lives, too.

Here are 3 loves that you and I should have…

Common love.

It’s righteous to love others. Jesus teaches us this when He says, “Come to me all who are weary.” We have to love everyone. We are commanded to put others before ourselves and to care about their eternity… to share God’s love with them.

Close love.

This goes deeper and shares more of life than common love. You show close love to your friends and people that you believe in and that believe in you. You pull these people closer, spend more time engaging them and more time sharing yourself with them. You usually hold something in common with these people (hobby, church, personality, place of work, etc.).

Cherished love.

This is that close circle that you know and love best. These are the people that you’re willing to share the deepest parts of your life and emotions with. We trust these people and cherish our time with them. It’s a mutual love and respect. No one holds the upper ground in this relationship, you’re there for each other and go through difficult times together. These are our family and close friends. These are the people we rely on most and go to first when we need someone.

Knowing thses 3 levels of love can really help us love the way Jesus did. They help us make more time for the things and people that matter most while still loving the world. I’m betting that many of us already have this in place and just didn’t know it.

Thoughts?

#Eli the Underdog & The Giants #SuperBowl Champs

While many of us were busy eating chips and salsa and buffalo wings while watching the Super Bowl and the Super Bowl commercials, Eli Manning and the New York Giants were busy doing what they’ve become so good at…

Winning against the odds.

When asked at the beginning of the season if he was an elite quarterback, Eli Manning responded with confidence. After losing 4 games in a row earlier in the year, Eli and the Giants were able to bounce back in a big way.

They’ve been the underdogs for much of the year.
Eli’s been the underdog for much of his life.

Sure, Eli was always highly regarded as a QB, but has always lived under his brother’s shadow.

He’s an underdog.

But he gets it done. In fact, he now has one more Super Bowl ring than his more talked about and hyped brother.

Why?

Because he doesn’t listen to the people that say he can’t…
He just does.
He believes.

He wins.

Hoping you and I can learn from it.

Don’t let people tell you what you can’t do, work hard to be sure you show them what you are capable of doing!

Your thoughts? Did you watch the game? Heck, share your favorite commercial.
