Jesus Wasn’t Perfect, You Won’t Be Either

Everywhere Jesus went, people had the opportunity to come near to him.

He was the walking, living, and breathing Son of God.
He was the Savior, the One.

But yet, not everyone believed.

Jesus called the crowds to him and said,

follow me ALL who are weary.

Jesus chose 12 people to invest in and raise up over the course of his 3 years of ministry.

He invited everyone, he invested in 12.

But not everyone followed him.

In fact, out of the 12 that he chose to spend the most of his time with, one failed enough that it lead to His death.

Jesus came face to face with the rich young ruler (Luke 18) and failed to have the young man completely turn and surrender to him.

Not everyone you try to show Jesus will accept him.

Jesus wasn’t perfect in getting people to follow him, you won’t be either.
I won’t be either.

But,

Jesus still died.
He still rose.

You and I have to keep going. Sure, that person that you’ve been trying to win to Christ may never accept, but keep trying. You won’t be perfect, but you can’t quit trying.

It’s your calling.
It’s mine.

All of Him

An infinite God can give all of Himself to each of His children. He does not distribute Himself that each may have a part, but to each one He gives all of Himself as fully as if there were no others.

Why #Twitter is Dead & 4 ways to Revive Your Twitter Stream

Because you are killing it by not being social.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, social media is only what you make it. If you and I see social media as a way to promote a brand or just push a blog, we’re missing the point. It’s about so much more than that.

Sure, social media may be a very effective way of marketing, but most people don’t like to be ‘marketed’ to. They want a relationship with the author of a blog or with the owner of a business. They want to feel like they have a contact with people through twitter… like they ‘know’ them.

For us regular people, being social is why we’re on social media in the first place. It’s not because we wanted to start a blog and tweet links or because we have something to sell, it’s because we want to be social… we want to share information and learn new things from new people that we talk WITH.

So, why is your twitter stream dead?

Because you haven’t been social.

That being said, here are 4 ways to revive your twitter stream…

1. Follow PEOPLE back – When someone follows you on twitter, follow back. I’m not talking about following everyone or everything, but the people that look like they’re on twitter for the same reason as you (to connect with other people), give a return follow to.

2. Respond to @ replies – Once again, you don’t have to respond every time you see and @ reply in your stream, but if someone is taking the time to talk to you specifically, respond back if it’s appropriate. It doesn’t take long and it lets people know you’re a real person and want to be social.

3. RT interesting stuff – If you see something good of someone else’s, RT it. Either the old or the new way works. This just lets people know that it’s not all about you… all about your links and your content.

4. Respond to interesting tweets – Don’t be afraid to @ people first. It’s not weird or stalkerish, it’s just social media. Promote conversation, approach others.

OK, what else has killed the twitter stream and how can we revive it?

Stupid Grace

I was reading through the story of Joseph a couple of days ago… the part where he takes care of his brothers after he has the power… and had this thought…

It makes no sense that Joseph would take care of his brothers.

Absolutely none.

It’s stupid.

They sold him into flipping slavery!

But then, I heard this…

true grace doesn’t make sense.

True grace accepts a wrong and does right in return.
True grace realizes that God can use what’s meant for harm for something really good.
True grace is radical.
True grace is done without a personal agenda.

True grace is stupid.

It was when Joseph used his position to take care of his family.
It was when Jesus died in my place…
in yours.

I want to be stupid with grace.
To live grace out in a way that makes no sense to the people that feel it.

We all should.

Stupid Grace.

Success Comes to Those That Go Get It

No one’s going to MAKE you be successful.

Think about it, whatever you do, there are people around you that do the same thing. You’re all (in many cases) doing much of the same work, making much of the same salary, and trying to accomplish much of the same thing.

No one is going to MAKE you be the best.

That’s up to you.

If you’re a Mom or Dad or husband or wife or friend or pastor or leader, it’s up to you to push yourself to be the best.

There has to be conviction on our part each and every day to not settle for second best,
to not settle where we are.

We have to rise above.
To keep getting better.
To keep striving for more.

No one is going to make us be better.

That’s up to us.

The successful people are the ones that have the conviction and the drive all on their own.

To consistently run toward the goal without stopping.

The successful people are the ones that are determined to be the most successful…

  • mom
  • dad
  • brother
  • sister
  • friend
  • custodian
  • employee
  • athlete
  • teacher
  • leader
  • pastor
  • driver
  • principal
  • secretary
  • etc

…that they can be.

Are you determined to succeed? No one’s forcing you to.

[For more about seizing success, see this post.]
