The Fuel of Frustration

Life can be frustrating, can’t it?

I think we learn that more and more the older we get and the more life experience we have. If you don’t believe me, have a child, buy a house, or just live life for a few days.

Life is full of frustrations.

The key to life, then, isn’t avoiding the frustrations, it’s making it through the frustration to the success. The other day, our little man was trying to get his Legos to snap together. He’s not 4 yet, so sometimes he still has trouble pushing them at the right angle and hard enough to get them to snap into place. He kept trying over and over and finally let out an, “Ugggh!!” My response to him was to help him, but I also told him it was okay to get frustrated, but it wasn’t okay to give up.

Like Riley putting together Legos, we run into these “Uggh” moments and we want to give up. The successful people, though, aren’t the ones that give up or even try something new when frustration comes. The successful people are the ones that use the frustration and leverage it.

Frustration is fuel to try again with a new plan.

So instead of just getting mad at your situation or your job or what you’re trying to get done, let the frustration fuel you to more determination, concentration, and dedication. Let frustration lead to fuel rather than failure.

Instead of being mad at your past hurt, let it lead you to not hurting others.
Instead of being frustrated with your boss, let it fuel you to treat the people you oversee better.
Instead of being frustrated at your spouse, let it fuel you to considering how you can love them better.
Instead of being frustrated with your finances, let it fuel you to seek help or make a budget.
Instead of being frustrated with your weight, let it fuel you to make a small change that could cause big results later.

Frustration can lead to multiplication if we let it.

It can be the thing that causes us to multiply our efforts and multiply our dreams. It can be the thing that helps us make new relationships rather than just ending old ones.

How will you view the frustration you feel right now?

Very good and very thought provoking. It is some what reminiscent to me of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s , “The cross we bare preceds the crown we’ll wear.”
