Just A Portrait

I have an iPhone 7 Plus.

No, that’s nothing to brag about, but it does help me with taking pictures because it has something called Portrait Mode.

For those that don’t know, Portrait Mode uses a special lens to bring focus to the subject of a photo. When using this mode, you can tap on the screen to focus on your subject and the background stuff blurs to the back of the photo. Here’s an example with a picture I took of Riley a while back.

I bring all of this up because I think it’s a perfect picture (pun intended) of…

Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

When I tap on and focus in on Jesus, the rest of the stuff around me often just becomes background noise. The small things that can easily become big things are taken in context. The things other people say about me that aren’t true are suddenly not relevant. The worries of the day become afterthoughts of tomorrow.

Isn’t it easy? Isn’t it easy to get so caught up with the background and the stuff that is meant to be in the peripheral and make it the main thing?

So, fix your focus.

Fix it on the main thing and let the other stuff be blurred in the background. Let what they say, what may happen, what you’d like to see, and even what others expect fade away. Let the matchless, foundational, earth shaking, grace-filled love of Christ be your focus!

Life is just a portrait. Make sure you’re focused on the right subject.
