Make It Personal

personal

2 Peter 1:16-18 (NIV) For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.

We can never underestimate the importance of making it personal.

One of the things I love about the Bible is that the writers of the New Testament witnessed Jesus first hand. They weren’t writing on hearsay or what they thought they remembered, they were writing from first hand experience.

It was personal.

So when Peter writes that “we ourselves heard,” he can speak with authority and with the credibility required to convince people of what he’s telling them.

He saw Jesus feed thousands of people with a boy’s lunch.
He saw Jesus almost break his nets when he told him to lower the nets on the other side of the boat.
He was with Jesus on the mountain of transfiguration.

It was personal.

That’s why he was willing to fight for what he believed and do all he could to help others see and believe it as well.

As Christians, especially as leaders, we have to make it personal.

You’ll never fight for or stick with what you don’t hold personal.

You have to know your why behind your what.
You have to believe in the destination while you’re on the journey.
You have to know the goal behind your action steps.
You have to remember the mission behind your method.

Make it personal. Make it so dear to you that you won’t give it up.

Let it mean something beyond just accomplishing some tasks and checking off some list.
The list is NOTHING without the love for what it leads to.

Make it personal.
