The Post That Almost Was But Taught Me Something Anyway

Last week, I went on a trip to Denver with my pastor to help train some church leaders and small town pastors.

On the plane ride back, I was intentional to write a couple of things…

1. Most of another chapter of the upcoming ebook The Productive Pastor.
2. A blog post for today.

I did both of those things. In fact, the blog post that I had for you today was pretty well thought out, it had a great looking image to add to it, and it would have encouraged and helped a lot of people.

However,

On the last leg of the flight home, I reached down in my bag to get my iPad out (where I had typed all of this) and realized I had never gotten my iPad out of the seat back pocket on the flight from Denver to Atlanta. You can imagine the panic! Thankfully, it wasn’t a long trip back to our Columbia SC airport. When I got off the plane I asked one of the ladies what I should do. They said to fill out an online form.

I did that in the car on the way home.

So far, all I’ve gotten was this email about 48 hours after submitting the claim…

Yep, not encouraging.

So, if there’s a point to this post, here it is…

1. Check to be sure you have everything before you get off an airplane… which I USUALLY do!

2. Sometimes you have to learn the hard way.

How often do we know something, but fail to do it because we’ve never truly “learned” it? We know something cognitively, but we fail to practice it because we’ve never experienced the pain of it going wrong.

That’s what happened on my plane.

Don’t fail if you don’t have to, but also…

Don’t let failure fail to teach you something.

Just a reminder from an iPadless dude who will NEVER forget something on an airplane again.
