Then fire from the LORD came down and burned the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, and the ground around the altar. It also dried up the water in the ditch. (1 Kings 18:38 NCV)
I find it cool that Elijah prayed for the sacrifice to be burnt up and God burnt everything around the sacrifice up as well. This was the part of 1 Kings where God goes face to face with the other “gods” of the day.
Baal couldn’t start a fire… He couldn’t even get a spark going. The prophets of Baal prayed and even shouted for him to start the fire.
Elijah prayed to God and God not only caused a spark, but a fire.
He not only caused a fire, but burnt up the sacrifice.
He not only burnt the sacrifice, but burnt everything around it.
Isn’t that just how God is?
We ask for something and He does so much more.
We usually ask for a spark and He burns the whole thing up.
Whatever you’re praying for and waiting for, you can expect God to show up and go beyond anything you can imagine. Sometimes, it may not be what you want, but it’ll be what you need. It’ll be what allows God to show Himself the most in.
Trust God. He’s got so much more!
