The One Thing Jesus Wants From Us

Just then he looked up and saw the rich people dropping offerings in the collection plate. Then he saw a poor widow put in two pennies. He said, “The plain truth is that this widow has given by far the largest offering today. All these others made offerings that they’ll never miss; she gave extravagantly what she couldn’t afford—she gave her all!” – Luke 21:1-4 (MSG)

Jesus wants us.

At the end of the day, Jesus wasn’t concerned with the amount of money anyone was putting into the plate, Jesus was concerned with the heart of the person putting it in.

God often amazes me at the lengths He’s willing to go to in order to have a relationship with us. He so desires that our hearts are yielded to him and in right standing with him, that He’s willing to make the first move.

The poor widow in this story was willing to give it all to God. She was willing to yield her heart and livelihood to him. She was willing to sell out to His heart.

She was willing to give total surrender.

Are we?

  1. It amazes me how often we make following God about everything else than just giving ourselves to Him. It can be scary for sure, but anything less is completely unsatisifying. Great word, Jonathan!

    1. Amen! Thanks, Jason

  2. Jason hit the nail on the head. It’s not whatever the monetary gift is. It is about giving to Jesus from our hearts. The rich people in this story gave to “show off” that they could afford whatever the material price was. They could care less about Jesus. The poor lady was rich in spirit and gave because she believed in the Lord and she wanted to give back whatever she could to Him.

    1. Praying that becomes our attitude as well. Thanks, Hal
