An Overlooked Leadership Trait

by

Isaiah 26:3 – With perfect peace you will protect those whose minds cannot be changed, because they trust you.

One of the great things about leaders is their ability to push people forward to accomplish more than they thought they ever could on their own. Leadership is influence. I think most of us have that understanding.

One of the often overlooked principles, though is a leader’s ability to bring peace to uneasy circumstances…

  • Unknown trouble
  • Staff issues
  • Vision issues
  • Controversy
  • Layoffs

All of these things bring a level of uneasiness and disruption to an organization, church, or family. Great leaders, though, have the ability to provide peace in the midst of the unknown and worrisome situation. Great leaders are able to step in and, not exactly solve the problem, but reassure those around the problem that they’ll continue to move forward. In fact, these times are a great test for people in leadership positions. The ones that pass that test let those around them see the bigger picture and the positive in it all. They are the ones that lead movements.

Don’t overlook this trait. Don’t underestimate this leadership quality that Jesus so mightily demonstrates for us all.

    1. Absolutely. Can’t ever overlook that.

  2. I’ve been memorizing the book of James, so this verse comes to mind. “And the seed whose fruit is righteous is sown in peace by those who make peace.”

  3. It helps when people can predict your reaction – a calmness, steadiness, and fairness. They can trust you.
