An Old Principle For The Young Leader: Find What Works

by

in ,

One of the temptations any young leader can have is to try and be someone else. So much that they end up trying to be like someone else.

Now, don’t get me wrong. There’s certainly nothing wrong with having a mentor and looking up to someone else for inspiration.
There’s definitely nothing wrong with taking ideas and tips from a leader you admire and applying them to you own life.

Just know…

You can’t be them.
You have to find what works for you.

What you do won’t be exactly what others do.

Do what you do.

Learn concepts, ideas, and people skills from other leaders. Be a great follower if you find yourself in the 2nd chair, but be yourself in…

  • How you relate to people.
  • How you organize.
  • How you manage projects
  • How you refuel on the weekends.
  • How you build relationships.
  • How you interact with staff.

Be you, not them.

God put the gift of leadership in YOU,
be you,
using your gift with the greatest possible effectiveness,
excellence,
confidence,
and excitement.

  1. This is a tremendous statement – “be you.” Discover who you are, embrace your strengths, and serve with humility. Understand that you were specifically created with a purpose, and your own jaw-dropping talents.

    1. Yeah. Not sure we realize on a daily basis how powerful and freeing that statement is.

  2. I’ve been guilty of this as a blogger and fallen into the trap of copying a formula instead of writing authentically. I’m excited for the road ahead and thru writing have discovered a new sense of confidence in who I am.

    1. You’re a gifted writer… no reason for you to be anyone else. Thanks for reading, KC.

  3. […] I’m not saying we should do things just like everyone else. In fact, I’m totally against copying the church down the street, the family next door, or the person beside you. […]
