Trusting God: The Greatest, Not The Easiest

When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, “If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” So God led them in a roundabout way through the wilderness toward the Red Sea. Thus the Israelites left Egypt like an army ready for battle. (Exodus 13:17, 18 NLT)

God lead them in a “round about way.”

Now, if I’m an Isrealite, I’m not liking this round about thing. I don’t even like having to make U turns because I feel like I’m going out of the way. I certainly don’t want to take a round about way as they had to take. I’ve been in slavery and I’m ready for God to make good on his promise.

Sometimes, God still takes us on a round about way to make good on his promise. It’s not up to me to know exactly why, but I have to trust the same God that made the promise to make good on the promise in His most graceful and wise way. That’s why He’s God and I’m not… He knows.

Whatever God has been promising you…

  • A child
  • A new job
  • A family member to accept Christ.
  • A second chance
  • Acceptance into school.
  • A spouse.
  • etc…

Don’t give up because you seem to be going in a round about way. Keep trusting Him… step by step… call by call…

If you’re leading people and you’ve gotten the God given vision for what you’re leading, keep trusting even if it seems like you’re getting nowhere. Keep leading well. God will provide what He’s allowed you to see. (tweet that sentence)

What are you trusting God for that it seems like He’s taking you round about to get there?

Wow – the Lord knew I needed this reminder! I have been praying and have been promised that my son will be saved. In the meantime, things are very difficult, and I find things in myself that need to be weeded out as I relate to him. So thank you, Jonathan, for refocusing my eyes on the Lord and the prize at the end of this race!

    1. So glad this was a timely reminder. Thanks, Faith

  2. Was just reading the first few chapters of Judges this morning. It started off well enough, with Israel seeking God. But quickly they disobeyed His command to get rid of all the nations in The Land. They came upon struggles, and instead of pressing forward or finding another way, they made covenants with those people.

    1. Yes. That set them back big time I’d say… haha… God still made good on his promise. Love how he does that. Thanks, Joey!

  3. Countless times, I have had to come back and thank God for not letting me direct my path, and for not letting me choose things on my timing. I didn’t understand at the time, and it didn’t always make sense at the moment. It is hard to have the faith and trust that God’s timing is magnificent. Through prayer, encouragement from people such as yourself, and other trusted believers, we can hold on to Him in faith that he knows best. Thanks for the encouraging post!

    1. You’re so right, David. Thanks for reading and sharing!

We want God to deliver on our terms, not realising that His Plan is eternal and timeless. He is a God of covenant. Honors his promises for His Name sake.
Lets keep reminding one another, cos’ in the midst of trails we tend to forget.
