Young Leader: Do This One Thing

The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight. Proverbs 4:7 (ESV)

What great advice for young leaders!

I see this as such a big problem for young people (and older people alike). The problem? We think we don’t need any help from anyone else. We look at the people around us and think that they have nothing to offer us.

It really is a large matter of pride. We want to think we have all the answers. For those of us that are young, we often cover up the insecurity of our immaturity by claiming to have ‘arrived’ and learned it all.

Proverbs gives great advice…

Get wisdom
Get insight

How do we ‘get’ them?
We ask God for it.

We ask God to put the people around us that He wants to pour into us. We seek the wisdom of the more experienced and the insight of the ones more educated. We seek it now so that we can be useful now and later.

No matter your age, seek wisdom. Seek insight.

Where/who do you go to for advice?

  1. There’s a huge list of people to seek advice from. In short it could look like this – older Christians in general (they’ve lived a long life, what have they learned?); people who are doing things we would like to do; people who’ve overcome trials. Very general, but super helpful and encouraging to me.

    1. Glad to hear that. I agree… we can learn from anyone… especially those that have gone before us and blazed trails we haven’t. Thanks, David.

  2. I go to my dad and uncle often. Both are pastors and both are much wiser than me.
