4 Things Walking in the Spirit Is Not

2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT) For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline..

1. Walking Scared

God has not called any of us to live a life of fear. Whatever is in front of you that has your paralyzed with fear or whatever you are worrying about… let it go. You can’t walk scared.

2. Being Timid

Live bold. That’s the way Jesus did. He didn’t live a life timid and afraid, he lived a life that was was full of power. People notice a powerful life that represents Jesus. I’m not saying we should be jerks, I’m saying we don’t have to be timid and afraid.

3. Acting Mean

God is love. We should be too. One of the things I notice as I live my life in my context and area of the world is that people are craving love. They want to see love in our lives and displayed in our lives. They want to see love and grace in our lives and through our lives.

4. Living Out of Control

We have the power, through the Spirit, to live lives of self discipline. We have freedom. When we walk in that freedom, we aren’t held back by the same things over and over, we are free from living out of control and on every whim.

  1. Walking in the spirit changes us…and should change the lives of those around us. Great list, Jonathan!

    1. Absolutely. Thanks, Jason

  2. So, I’m having a bit of devotional time and going through my e-mail. I read an e-mail with the verse in a devotional called “Legend of Fear” and then clicked on this post. I’ve seen this verse four times in the past three days. Coincidence? Hardly.

This verse confirmed some things in my life over the summer. I kept praying to God and asking Him what He was trying to tell me and what was I so afraid/timid/scared about. Ironically, the Holy Spirit was working in my life at the time in powerful ways. I didn’t get it.

Now I’m seeing this verse again. It only confirms one area. What I love most about this list is in order to walk and live in the Spirit – we have to give it complete control over every area of our life.

This list is both confirming and convicting.

Thank you and Happy New Year!

    1. Happy new year to you, Julie. Yeah, definitely convicting! Glad it spoke to you!

  3. I hope to be more diligent in my spiritual growth this year. At times, I can be quite sporadic about it, almost as if I am too busy to focus on it. I hope to change that this year.
