3 Roles Communication Plays in Leadership

The art of communication is the language of leadership. – James Humes

I came across this quote by James Humes a few weeks ago. It’s one of those quotes that sounds good when you first read it, but even better when you stop and think about what it means. Here are 3 crucial roles communication plays in leadership…

Vision Communication is Essential

Vision is the roadmap of leadership. Without vision, leaders have no clue where they’re going and followers fail to get on board. People respond to vision. The key to vision though? Communicating it, and communicating it, and communicating it again.

People Need to be Told

No matter who you are or how old you may be, you want to feel valued. It’s a need placed in us by our Creator so that we feel love. Love is communicated and demonstrated. Without communicating love and value to other people, they will never follow. They need to know that you care and that they have something of value to offer. Communication is important.

Communication Displays Passion

One of the things I always notice in a speaker’s voice is their passion. If a leader fails to communicate with passion, not only will they lose followers, but they’ll lose their cause.

What other important roles does communication play in leadership?
