Lead Like God

“The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his demands.” Psalm 25:10 NLT

I was reading through Psalm 25 the other day and the first part of this verse hit me square in the face (yes, it even hurt a little).

You see, we’ve become really good at complicating leadership.

We’ve developed leadership conferences.
We’ve written and read thousands of books by leaders giving advice to other leaders.
We’ve spent plenty of money sharpening our own leadership skills.

But, when it comes down to it, it’s really about one thing…

Leading people the way God wants us to lead them.

I love that this verse summarizes God’s two greatest techniques and philosophies of leadership…

1. Unfailing Love.

God loves without waver. Now, don’t get me wrong, you and I aren’t God and can’t pretend to be. We are, however, followers of him and should seek to be like Him. He gives us the capacity to love in spite of the short-comings of those around us. The people you lead (your staff, your church, your kids, your wife, etc) will fail. We will mess up. Love anyway. That’s what God represented and displayed throughout scripture to the people he called to lead. The great leaders of the Bible failed, God loved them anyway.

2. Faithfulness.

God is faithful. We’ve heard that. We believe that. We just may not have thought of it as a leadership principle. The truth is, God is faithful to his people. God is faithful to his vision. God is faithful to his plan.

God is faithful. We should be faithful to those that we lead and the place we’re leading them to. This requires patience, prayer, and a determined eye on the end goal. Be faithful to God. Be faithful to people.

Lead like God.

What other leadership principles is God showing you right now?
