Memorial Day was originally known as ‘Decoration Day.’

On May 5, 1862, General John A. Logan, leader of an organization for Northern Civil War veterans, called for a nationwide day of remembrance later that month. “The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land,” he proclaimed.

Memorial Day began as a day to decorate the graves of those that died in battle…

that died defending fellow man and fighting for what they believe so strongly in.

2 things about today…

1. Thanks to all of you that have sweated for, volunteered for, fought for, and battled for the freedom that we all enjoy daily.

2. I hope I’m remembered for being someone that was willing to fight for what they believed in… that was worth remembering. I want to be someone that impacts lives in a way that changes them forever.

What are you doing to celebrate the day?
