1 Way To Honor Your Spouse (or anyone else)

by

in ,

I don’t remember who I heard say this, but for some reason, it stuck with me.

It stuck with me enough that it’s become something I practice regularly when my wife walks into the room where I’m sitting.

I stand up.

I know it seems simple, but it’s just my way of honoring her,
of honoring her presence in the room.

It’s my way of acknowledging that her presence means something to me.

What’s one way you honor your spouse, significant other, or anyone you respect?

Would you RT this post to help spread the honor?

  1. It used to be (back in my day) that men always stood when a woman entered the room. i still try to do that…when I remember. I am going to have to think about this with my wife. I don’t normally do that I don’t think. Thanks for the challenge today jonathan.

    1. you’re welcome. Thanks for stopping by, Bill.

Another way to honor a spouse is to just turn off the TV when they come into the room with something to say. It lets you focus on what they are saying and shows them that you are trying to pay attention. The game will usually still be on when they are done.

    1. Absolutely. Good suggestion. Undivided attention. Thanks, Rob.

  3. Very good. Thanks! I have been teaching my children about this principle. Good points made by Bill and Rob too. Another way I like to honor my wife is by speaking well of her to our children and to others even when she is not around.

    1. YES! The ultimate honor. Speaking well of her. I think a lot of couples miss that. Even in difficult times, still speak well. Thanks, Phillip.

  4. Open the door for my wife.

    1. Yep. Always important. Thanks, Jon!

  5. When he speaks, not to interrupt – and when he’s finished, instead of giving my own input, to ask questions about what he just said to show genuine interest and understanding of what was important enough for him to share with me.

    1. Great addition, Sherry. Not interrupting is one that I’m not always good at either. Thanks for stopping by and sharing!

    2. Great one, Sherry. When my husband and I first got married I was notorious for finishing his sentences…not good. 10 years later and I’ve gotten much better at keeping my big mouth shut.

  6. He loves when I smile. I should smile at him more often.

    1. Yes you should. :) Thanks for stopping by.

  7. When walking with my wife, I always walk on the outside – nearer the traffic. It won’t do much good if there’s a runaway bus, but it says that I treasure her and mean to protect her if I’m able.

    1. True. I often forget that one. Good reminder!

  8. I always open doors for my wife. I like the standing up…very respectful.

    1. Yeah. Opening door is still really important. Don’t see it as much as we should these days.

  9. Loved Sherry’s comment. I don’t think my hubby has ever stood up when I’ve entered the room…he probably knows I would try to steal his spot on the couch…just kidding ;) I also try to honor my spouse by thanking him for things he does for our family. I want him to know I appreciate him.

    1. Appreciation is a big thing… Especially for a man (of course, that’s all I know :)) Thanks for your add!

  10. Dude, that is awesome. I hold the door for my wife and make sure to hang up whatever phone call I’m having if she calls/texts me.

I’m gonna start the standing up thing.

    1. Like the hanging up with whoever for her. Not sure if I do that all the time. Thanks KC.
