Paint Your Canvas

When an artist stands in front of a blank canvas for the first time, the possibilities are endless. The artist can paint absolutely anything they want inside the parameters of the canvas and the paint that sits in front of them. They determine what goes on to the canvas, the mood of the painting, and what others will see when they look at the finished art.

Each day, you and I sit in front of an empty canvas that is our life. As we go through our day, it’s painted with the places we go, the people we interact with, the way we effect those people, the way we react to circumstances, and the purposes we achieve for that day.

My challenge to us today…

Paint your canvas.

Dont let someone else come in and steal it from you.
Don’t let tough times rob the joy from it.
Don’t let the enemy convince you that your canvas is void of potential because of its painter.

Paint your canvas.

Your life is a canvas too. At the end of it, something will appear.
What will it be? What will people see as they look at it? What will they remember as they see your canvas in full?

Paint your canvas.
Let God determine the picture.

  1. Thanks for the encouraging post! When we examine life as a blank canvas, we realize that opportunities are limited only by our own minds. In reality, the possibilities are limitless. What an opportunity to express the passions God has instilled in each one of us!

  2. This is a great post, Jonathan. When we see each day as a blank canvas we have the opportunity to carefully construct a beautiful painting or haphazardly sling a bunch of colors and careless brush strokes and so mar the painting.

    I’m reminded of Lamentations 3:22-23 where it reads, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

  3. Very inspirational! If I only have the creativity I would enjoy painting my own canvas.. I know myself and I am don’t fit in with that.. But Thanks a lot for your motivational words.. Hope you will encourages more painters.

  4. Love this post Jonathan! Even great for parents to share with their kids. :-) I actually have blank canvases and paints and brushes… but I always say there’s no time to paint. When in actuality I’m afraid of messing up. I think the idea is to just step out and do it. Nothing we set out to do will be perfection… so we shouldn’t let that hold us back, right? :-) Thanks for sharing!!

  5. Your post reminded me of the Message translation of Galatians 6: 4-5 “Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.” We each have a specific painting we need to work on today!

    These are the two I struggle with the most – not necessarily that I don’t see potential in myself, but because I feel like I’m lagging behind in life. Crappy job. Not married. No kids. Working on a dream but still needing a job to pay bills. The enemy tries to convince me every day that none of it is making a difference.

    But I know he’s wrong!

  12. Great message Johnathan, and great comments. I do literally paint on canvases (sometimes wood), not my “regular job” though. This makes me think about how we can paint (influence) other people with our words and actions.
