It’s Bigger Than You

Every now and then, we need to be reminded…

It’s bigger than me.

Bigger than my agenda
Bigger than my plans
Bigger than my advancement
Bigger than my platform

It’s GOD big!

Ultimately, all of eternity comes down to something so much more than my dot on the map and my dash in the timeline. It’s so much bigger.

Creation,
time,
earth, and
sky have something so much bigger than us behind them.

Genesis 1: 1-5 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

They’re GOD big!

First Impressions: 4 Tips to Make Em Better

I love people.

Anyone that knows me knows that while it may not be the most comfortable thing to me, I love meeting new people.

Whether it be the Wal Mart cashier, a guest at church, or someone I’ve met through a friend, I always love meeting new people for the first time.

Through observing myself and how others greet me for the first time, I thought I’d outline 4 keys to making a good first impression. Keep in mind, these may vary depending on culture, age, etc…

1. Eye contact – Always make eye contact. Looking them in the eyes tells them that they’re Important to you and that you really do have interest in getting to know them. It says to me that I’m not just someone you have to meet, but I’m someone you want to get to know.

2. Firm handshake – Men, shake hands… for real. No wimpy handshake. I think my generation has forgotten this. If you’re shaking my hand, give it to me firm. It tells me that you’re serious about meeting me and that you value my time. Of course, use some common sense here too… it’s not a battle of hand strength.

3. Smile – This should go without saying, but I always make sure I smile when I first meet someone. I want them to know that I’m happy to meet them. I may not be the most comfortable person in the world at that moment, but I want them to be comfortable with me.

4. Repeat their name – After the initial introduction, repeat the person’s name during the rest of the conversation. It makes me feel valued when people I just met know my name. I stink with names, but I can remember a new person’s name long enough to repeat it back to them.

What other advice do you have for making a good first impression? Please share!

3 Things You Don’t Wanna Live Without

Purpose

Well sure, you can technically ‘live’ without a purpose, but it’s not going to be one worth while. Purpose is the thing that chains us to our greatest source of life… Jesus. When our purpose comes from a place of helping others know him, it changes our life. Without a purpose, life becomes mundane, all about us, and really empty. Don’t live without purpose. Find yours. Sell out to it!

Passion

Passion drives the purpose. Passion is that thing inside of all of us that says, “You HAVE to do this, it’s part of you.” If you’re living without a passion for a purpose, you aren’t really living at all. You’re walking through life. You don’t have fun, you don’t have joy, and you don’t have Jesus… He’s our ultimate passion.

Poise

In the midst of all the excitement, you need poise. Poise is the thing that says my purpose MUST be fulfilled through my passion, but ultimately I trust God to do it all through me. I’m going to be patient with people because I’ve had people be so patient with me. Sure, you can move and breathe without poise, but you’re just wearing yourself out.

Your turn, what shouldn’t we live with out? (No, it doesn’t have to begin with a ‘p’)

It Ain’t Wrong, But It Ain’t Right

“If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” – Genesis 4:7

It’s completely possible to do something that isn’t wrong, but it not be right either.

In Genesis 4:7, Cain had given an offering to God, he had done a right act.
But, he didn’t do the right thing.

It’s possible that you or I aren’t really doing anything wrong, but we aren’t doing anything right either.

Maybe we aren’t committing a whopping sin that the person that lives down the street from us is, but we also aren’t doing anything that God’s calling us to do either.

What I believe?

Sometimes God honors our wrong action more than our subtle disobedience.

Ultimately, God desires that I live a life of boldness, reckless obedience, and purpose for Him…
Not a safe life of perfection.

God wants me to be a tool, not a trophy (I wrote more about this here).

I’m trying my best not to be a Cain.

I don’t want to avoid doing something wrong,
I want to do what God says is right.

What are you not doing now that God’s calling you to do?
