In Your Bed

I’ve talked about my love for sleeping in before.

For staying in the bed long after I’ve woken up.

I’ve never been a morning person…
I’ve always wanted to be.

I just haven’t figured out how to be perky that early.

So,

Are you a morning person or not? Do you like to stay in your bed?

Got any tips for me becoming a morning person?

3 Tips for Leading Millennials

Millennial (Gen Y): referring to those born between the mid 1970′s and 2,000.

Let them partner.

Millennials want to partner with you. We don’t want to contribute money to a fund, we want to partner with you and each other in doing the job OURSELVES. It’s not just about getting something done with us, it’s about partnering in the process with others. It’s about getting our hands dirty for something. If we’re forced to sit on the sidelines and observe too long, we’ll lose interest. Let us do something. Trust us enough to partner with us!

Let them plan.

Our own schedule that is. While I realize it’s not always possible, when possible we like to work at our own pace, on our own schedule. We have so much going on (even though we’re young), we want to plan when to do what. We’ll get it done in the time limit, but don’t force us to follow time specifics unless you absolutely must.

Let them participate.

Ultimately, millennials want to participate in a cause. A cause that is well beyond any lofty goal we could set for ourselves or seek to accomplish on our own. That’s why we like to partner with other people in hands on projects to impact people. Let us see what could happen if we completed what you’re asking us to do. That will greatly effect our pace, excellence, and joy while doing it. We don’t just want to be busy to be busy, that’s not success… success is accomplishing something that impacts the world!

How can you be set up for success?

The Battle You’re Facing

Without the agony of battle, we never experience the delight of victory.

No matter what we’re battling, this statement is true.

You can’t win the World Series without first competing in the playoffs.
You can’t experience the enjoyment of graduating without having to take the class.
You can’t experience the joy of having a child without the pains of childbirth.

You can’t experience the blessing of spiritual victory without the spiritual battle.

So,

Whatever you’re facing, keep your eye on the victory.

Focus on the victory even in the midst of the battle.

With Him all things are POSSIBLE.

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? – Romans 8:31

Intentional Faith: Why My Bird Died

When I was about 7 years old, I talked my mom into buying me a pet parakeet.

We went to the pet store, bought the bird, a cage, all the extras that I just had to have and got my new friend set up in my room.

I started out doing pretty well.
I’d feed the bird.
I’d make sure he had water.
I’d even let him fly around my room sometime.

A couple of months later, I quit hearing the bird squeak and move around his cage.

The reason?

He was DEAD.

The sucker died in his cage.
Upon further review, my Mom looked in the cage and saw that both the food and water containers in the cage were empty.

The problem?

I wasn’t intentional about helping my bird stay alive.
About helping him grow.

Many of us have the same problem with our faith.

We accepted Jesus.
We believed what we knew.
We were baptized.
We go to church.

But we’re not intentional about our faith…. it’s just in a cage in the corner.

We have to get intentional about growing our faith.
We have to set the time aside.
We have to be willing to guard it.
We have to know how to obey it.

Don’t let your faith stay in the corner and die, be intentional about growing it…

little by little…

day by day…

trial by trial…

victory by victory…

blessing by blessing.

What kind of intentional things do you do to grow your faith?

Snapshots & Perspective

We often see life in snapshots.

Since we don’t know the details of the future, we see the present and the past.

As we look at the past, we often see a snapshot of the positive.

  • We remember how in the ‘good ole days’ we did this or that.
  • We remember how great things were where we used to live.
  • We think about our current job and remember when things were simpler.
  • We remember how much fun we ‘used to have’.

In the present, we often look at the pain.

  • That little bump in the road today seems like it will never be a thing of yesterday.
  • The financial situation we find ourselves in today seems like it could be the end of the world… the end of our world.
  • The rebellious acts of our children seem like too heavy of a burden on our shoulders.
  • That breakup seems like it may end our dating life forever.
  • That test seems like a mountain in front of our degree.

The pain of the present will eventually fade away.

Those problems will seem so small compared to the joys we get to experience day in and day out…
even today.

Look at the snapshot of the positive.

See the mountain in front of you, but notice the sun rising in the distance.
Feel the pain inside, but see the beauty around.

What snapshot are you holding today?

Please note: I realize that this doesn’t apply to everyone. There are people (most people) with real past hurts and real present pain. I’m not discounting that. For many of us though, changing our perspective can go a long way in changing our snapshot of the present.
