3 Life Lessons From Angry Birds

1. If you really believe in something, you’ll give your life to see it accomplished.

For those of you that have never played Angry Birds (where ya been?), the goal of the game is to shoot birds out of a sling shot and kill pigs that have buried themselves under random structures. The premise behind the game is that the pigs took the birds’ eggs. This kinda ticked the birds off and so they’re out to rectify it. They believe in their mission. They know what they want to see happen, they have an intense desire to see it happen, and they’re willing to do anything to make it happen. If you’re not living your life on the foundation of something you’d be willing to give everything for, you’re living a rather meaningless life.

2. Use what you have, the best you can.

I still have no idea why the birds don’t just fly over and take back what’s theirs, but apparently they can’t. So the birds use what they have (a slingshot and themselves) to accomplish their mission. They don’t just give up because they don’t have exactly the right tools, they use what they have. It’s that important to them. Never make excuses about what you’re missing, use what’s present.

3. Know your enemy.

Imagine if the birds, instead of attacking the pigs, begun to fight amongst themselves. It’d be pointless and they’d never get their little eggs back. Instead, they know that their enemy is the pigs and they give it all they got (why don’t they just fly?!) to attack the pigs. Christians need to learn this. We often fight hard against someone who believes a little different and lose sight of the real Enemy… The Enemy is real. Instead of forming a team to kick hell in, we fight against the church down the street because they do church a little differently or have a different denominational title under their name. It’s time we open our eyes to the fact that we have bigger and more urgent battles to fight.

Ok, those are my 3. What else can we learn from these little, stinkin, and addictive birds?

  1. Haha! This is good!

    1. Haha! Awesome! 1 thing I would add. They each use their different gifts! “But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.” Ephesians 4:7

  2. By the way, I totally want to share this on my site…is that ok?

    1. Absolutely. Honored.

  3. Brilliant headline! Hope it drives some good traffic for you today.

Hi. My name is KC and I’m an Angry Birds addict. I have come this “…” close to even buying a t-shirt or one of the plush toys. I know, it’s really sad. Yes, I own all 3 versions as well. Not ashamed of that.

In addition to your awesome lessons here are 2 more:
    4. Trying the same thing over and over again will produce the same result over and over again.
    5. Be creative. Sometimes you have to attack a problem from behind.

    1. dude! love your #4. great point!

  4. Sometimes you have to blow up to get it done.

    1. haha… now that’s a painful lesson to learn. :) Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  5. You can be focused in all the right places, know the goal, know the enemy, and still miss the mark.

Also – Everyone needs help to accomplish their goals (ie – multiple birds and nothing happens unless the player pulls the bird back in the slingshot). It’s a team effort.

    1. That’s good man. Thanks!

  7. Great post buddy. My add in would be that unlike the birds, His church segregate themselves. We tend to stick to people who look like us, talk like us, and think like us, but the birds understand (I can’t believe that I’m saying that the birds understand anything) that they can come together for a single purpose. What we (His church) are missing, is that we are all His creations, and we were made for one purpose: obedience to our Father. He calls each to their own service, but ultimately, that service is to glorify Him.
    Because He Calls,

    Great thoughts…thanks for sharing.

    4. You do not always have to have a “special power” to accomplish the task. Those little red birds are nothing spectacular. They do not launch themselves and burst into 3 little birds. They do not drop any explosives, not do they even explode. They do not launch themselves in mid-flight into a rocket speed. They simply hit the target. They do what they can to acomplish the task.

    1. Good stuff. So true. Thanks for stopping by and sharing.

  9. Read this post on Brandon’s site at “BigB” and commented there. Here is what I said:

Great post, Brandon! Those angry little birds can definitely teach us some lessons. Your points are well taken…I especially think the last one is applicable. We do get distracted by petty differences in the Body when we should be focused on dealing with the real enemy.

    1. Thanks Randy. Appreciate you stopping by. I hate that our division as Christians is often more associated with us than our unity. Those stupid birds even know that ain’t right. :)

  10. I wish there were a “like” button on this post.

    I love the analogy! :)

Won’t be able to play that game without thinking about it.

  11. #4 Persistence pays off.
#5 Fail/Learn Some failures you show you things you would not learn any other way.
#6 Take a break – often the best way forward is to stop, focus elsewhere, and come back to the problem with fresh insight.

      1. Haven’t played this game, but I enjoyed what you did with your material. BTW, if you watch small birds carefully you’ll find that they can get very angry. I once was photographing a Red Tailed hawk dining on a pigeon. All around his perch, within a stones throw, were several species of small birds crying out their protest. And I’ve seen Mockingbirds attacking a hawk in mid air.
