Life & Leadership From Tim Tebow

Like most Sunday afternoons, yesterday I sat down to watch some football…
(After all, Sundays are made for church, napping, and football.)

As I was flipping through the games, I came across Tim Tebow and his first start in the NFL.

For those of you that don’t follow football, Tim Tebow is a verbal Christian that many said didn’t have the right skills to play in the NFL.

Like him or not, Tebow had a pretty decent day in his first start as a pro.

He looked pretty impressive.

Here are a few lessons we can all learn from Tebow.

1. Be yourself. Tim Tebow makes no excuses for who he is and what he represents. Some people don’t like him, and he’s OK with that. He continues to be himself.

2. Be passionate. If you’ve ever seen him play, one of the first things you notice about Tebow is his passion for the game. He doesn’t hide it, rather he lets other people feed off of it. He loves what he does and he allows it to come through in the way he does it.

3.  Be tough. Tim Tebow doesn’t allow his critics to get to him. He has a way of overcoming criticism and out-performing what others expect (like yesterday). No matter what people say about him, he handles his business.

Be yourself. Be passionate. Be tough. Some great lessons all of us need to remember.

What “celebrity” have you learned a life lesson from?

  2. As a current Floridian (I’m originally from CT) that doesn’t care about any of the state universities, I like Tim Tebow! He’s just a good example of a Christian on the field and he’s the kind of man I would want my son to admire.

    1. Yeah, the only thing I don’t like about him is that he played at Florida… :)

    Happy Anniversary! :)

  4. First off, let me wish you and your wife, (who is obviously the brains AND beauty in your marriage) a very happy anniversary! As for a life lesson from a “celebrity” I would have to say Stevie Wonder has always inspired me to persevere no matter what circumstances you find yourself in. Great post man!

    1. Great one Michael. I couldn’t agree more on either of your points! :-)

  5. Griffey Jr.

He did his business and was humble about it.

    1. Very true! Always seemed humble.

  6. It’s your anniversary? How fun! Happy Anniversary.

I have to disagree with your first point…NO napping on Sundays…neither in church, nor while football and/or NASCAR is on! :) HOW can one possibly sleep through that?!

Sadly, being in Lions territory, we don’t get the option to see the Broncos play. I think Tebow is an amazing young man and support him for the reasons you mentioned. I was thrilled to see him (via the hightlights) have such a great game.

No “celebrities” come to mind as far as inspiring me. I’m more inspired by my dad and his attitude of perseverance.

    1. haha… I thought that was WHY people watched NASCAR?? :-) J/k. So glad you can say that about your dad! Have a great holiday!

  7. Please don’t laugh but I’ve learned a lot from Jake the Snake Roberts – professional wrestler.

    1. I started to laugh, but then I read the post. Thanks for sharing that!

  8. So I think Tim is probably the best thing to happen to football since Kurt Warner. I wish there were more personalities like his, in the public eye. Maybe there are some great youth ministries out there training young leaders like Tim. I hope so… -Just Jon
