Wimps Accomplish Nothing!

I read a post by Seth Godin the other day that hit me like a ton of bricks.

Here’s the part that left me thinking…

Or consider the way we resist opportunities to lead, to connect, to do work that matters. We don’t resist because we’re not capable of it… we resist because if our marketing fails, if we don’t get the job or earn the trust, then we’re off the hook. No promises made, which means no promises to keep.

While Seth’s post is built on the premise of marketing, it can be applied to lots of areas.

It all comes back to an attitude that says, “If I never commit, I’ll never have to admit a I failed at trying.”

I think a lot of us live our lives with the same attitude.
I think a lot of us lead with the same attitude.

Some say, “If I just stay busy and never gain a God sized vision, I’ll never have to admit I didn’t fulfill it.”

Or, “If I just go through the motions in my organization, I’ll get by and will never have to deal with the hard stuff.”

The problem?

We’ll never accomplish anything monumental if we allow fear and pride to keep us from ever BEGINNING anything monumental.

Don’t fear failure.
Embrace boldness.
Don’t allow pride to be detrimental to your potential.
Humbly live out your calling.
Commit to that thing God is calling you to.
Commit to making a real difference.

  2. I’m not interested in just going through the motions… and I don’t want to hand God a list of excuses.

    Thanks!

  3. I ditto DS. I don’t want to look back and see that I’ve left a trail of excuses just like a flower girl leaves pedals down a wedding runway.

    Great post and challenge!

      1. You ever have one of those instances in which after it’s done you could write your epitaph? I feel like I completely died to myself and it’s awesome.

  5. If we refuse to make the commitment it is because we have little faith.
