The Campfire Principle: Relationships

Another aspect of life that operates by the “campfire principle” is relationship.
(If you missed the last post, you can catch up here)

No matter what kind of relationship we’re in, we must continually stoke it and build it.

I’ve only been married for about 20 months, but I’ve already learned that my relationship with my wife requires that I continually give and receive.

If one of us is doing all the giving, we eventually get tired and burn out.

I have to consistently serve and pursue my wife, or our relationship is not going to be “hot.” :)

A good relationship requires that we spend adequate and intentional time building.

So, time for your input.

What have you learned about keeping relationships going?

What other areas of life do you see this “campfire principle” at work?

The Campfire Principle: Ministry

I’m not really much of an outdoorsman, but I have sat around a campfire enough to know that,
if you don’t make an effort to keep a campfire going, it eventually dies out.

With a campfire, you have to consistently add wood and stoke the fire to keep it burning.

I think the same principle can be applied to a lot of different aspects of our life.

Ministry operates by the “campfire principle.”

If we are continuously burning and dedicating ourselves to ministry for others,
while failing to stoke our own fire, we’ll burn out.

If we are continuously pouring into others without allowing God to pour into us,
we’ll eventually dry up.

There’s no greater necessity for anyone in ministry than to spend personal time with the Father.

We can never replace preparation for teaching or ministry for our  own relationship with God.

If we do, we’ll eventually have nothing left.

Are you actively using the campfire principle?
Are you actively seeking a word from the Father?
Are your receiving the necessary fuel for your fire?

(If you need more help on the topic of burn out, Anne Jackson wrote a great book that you can find here)

What Christians Can Learn From Animals

This video has been around a while.

Many of you have probably seen it.

But, for those that haven’t,
you really need to!

Seriously, why can’t humans do this?

Better yet,
why can’t CHRISTIANS do this?

Instead, we let the color of our skin seperate our worship services.
Instead, we let a small issues of our faith divide the unity that we desperately need.

What can we learn from this elephant and dog?

When the Hopelessly Impossible Becomes A Hopeful Possibility

What seems hopelessly impossible becomes a hopeful possibility when it’s in God’s hands.

Jesus died a death that was typical of many criminals in His day.
They nailed Him to a cross and waited for Him to die.

The people of the time had seem this played out time and time again.
A man on a cross.
Nearing death.

What the people hadn’t seen was what happened after His death and burial.

For someone to die and then live was (and still is) an impossible conclusion.

The difference between the story of Jesus’ death and the death of the preceding criminals that were crucified during the time…
God’s plan.
God’s hand.

God took a hopeless situation and used it to provide hope for all time.

He can do it with what’s in front of you right now as well.

That thing that seems to have no hope.
That situation that you think is never going to improve.
That relationship that you believe is all but over.

What man was going to use for bad, God used for good.

The plot of man was also the plan of God.

It can be for you too.

Hold on to hope.
Hold on to God.

Favorite WordPress Plugins

I was searching for a certain WordPress plugin the other day and noticed how few things came up when I searched.
SO
I’m going to list my favorite 10 WordPress plugins.

Please keep in mind,
I am no WP genius.
I’m don’t even claim to be.

1. Askimet – Prevents spam comments from coming to my comment inbox (and an occasional legit comment).

2. Commentluv – Allows you to share your latest post under your comment when you comment.

3. Sexy Bookmarks – The pop up sharing icons under each post.

4. Feedburner – Allows my feed to be directed to feedburner for subscribing.

5.  Twitter Tools – Post twitter updates on my site and tweets each new post when it posts.

6. WP Greet Box – That possibly annoying box at the top of the page asking you to subscribe.

7. WP-Archives – Allows for a separate page for blog archives.

8. Facebook Like Button for WordPress – The ‘like’ tab at the bottom of each page.

9. WordPress Mobile Pack – Allows for easier reading on a mobile phone.

10. Tweet Old Posts - Sends out random tweets for posts from the good ole’ days.

I would link to each of these, but you really just need to search in the plugin portion of your dashboard.

So,

What are some of your favorite WP plugins and what do they do?

Please share!
