Stunted Growth

I’ve always placed a lot of blame on Christians that are inside the church and aren’t growing in their relationship with Jesus.

I’ve always placed a lot of blame on those that have been in the church for a good amount of time and seem to have not grown since the day of their salvation.
Yesterday I was thinking about these particular people and I suddenly had these thoughts…
What if these people aren’t growing because they’re not sure how?

What if, as church leaders, we’ve given them so many things to “do” that they’ve failed to see what matters most (their relationship with Christ)? Afterall, there are only so many hours in a week.

What if we have so many church activities that the people sitting in the church have little time to do anything outside of the church? Let alone spend time in personal Bible reading and prayer regularly.

What if we’ve made people feel good with our church organizations and our different ministries to the point that the people think these should provide them with enough spiritual milk to last them an entire week?

What if these ministries are ineffective, but people continue to come to them because we’ve guilted them into it? The people have done it for so long, they don’t know what true growth feels like.

What if people that have been in church for a while have decided that following tradition is the same as following Jesus?

I have no idea that any of these thoughts are legitimate, but I think there’s some truth in each of them. As a Christian, I consider my personal time with God to be something of high importance. It’s the place I have a true experience with God. We can’t allow ourselves to be fooled into thinking that anything will take the place of this.
We also can’t allow people to believe that spending 2, 3, 4, 9, or 15 hours at church a week is true spiritual growth. Sometimes, less is more.
