Growth by Subtraction

One of the ironies in Christianity is the fact that in order for us to get better, we must become less. In order for us to accomplish more for Christ, the smaller we must become.

John the Baptist said it best here.

The process is called growth, yet it actually consists of us reducing ourselves and allowing God to become bigger in our lives.

How do you do this?

We must constantly starve the flesh. We must be in constant communication with the one that we wish to take over our lives. We must spend meaningful and alone time with God, keeping His word at the forefront of our hearts and minds. We must put to death ourselves each day and allow Him to be portrayed in and through us. Submitting to Christ is not a one time event, it’s a daily necessity!

So, are you growing by becoming less? What must you rid yourself of to make this a reality? What disciplines do you need to adopt?
